Top 3 Pre-Travel Safety Tips for Labor Day Weekend and Back to School!

Anderson's Autobody Top 3 Road Travel Safety Tips for Labor Day Weeked. Happy Labor Day weekend!

We expect to have many more visitors, family, and friends hit North Idaho this weekend. You too might be planning to hit the road early for a Labor Day weekend getaway. Then bam! The kids are back to school on Tuesday, September 6.

All this means more folks on the roads! Whether your car or truck has been parked in the driveway or you’ve been using it regularly this summer, it’s a good idea to check these 3 things before you go:

1. CHANGE OR TOP OFF FLUIDS!

The heat and extra mileage of summer put stress on your vehicle. Oil and coolant ensure that your vehicle operates in top condition. Make sure they're clean and full!

2. TEST YOUR BATTERY!

Extreme heat can shorten the life of your battery. Get your battery tested to check if summer has left it in a weakened state before going into cooler weather.

3. INSPECT YOUR TIRES!

To test your tread depth, you can buy an inexpensive tire depth gauge or use the Lincoln Penny Tire Test*.

*Turn the penny so that Lincoln's head points down into the tread. See if the top of his head disappears between the ribs. If it does, your tread is still above 2/32”. If you can see his entire head, it may be time to replace the tire because your tread is no longer deep enough.

Now, if your car gets damaged or in an accident, we're 100% here for you. And, we will arrange for a tow truck or pick up if need be.

Happy Labor Day Weekend! Have fun and stay safe out there.
